Building hours

These are the doors-open hours for the whole facility. Each area inside closes a little earlier, so plan to finish 30 to 60 minutes before the building does.

Indoor pool schedule (school year)

The city splits pool time into two kinds of blocks. Exercise-only time is for lap swimming and water walking. Open swim is when families can play. Outside summer, the indoor leisure pool's weekday open swim is a three-hour evening window.

Weekday afternoons between noon and 5 p.m. are not listed as open swim in the leisure pool during the school year, so a toddler visit on a Tuesday afternoon may find it reserved for exercise. Lap lanes also shrink when swim lessons are running; the city publishes a lap-lane availability spreadsheet on its hours page that is worth checking before an evening swim.

Summer pool hours (2026 season)

The outdoor leisure pool and tot pool follow a seasonal calendar. For 2026, the city listed:

• Open daily: May 23 to August 11
• Weekends only: August 15 to September 6
• Labor Day: open September 7, then closed until Memorial Day weekend

The first two hours of each summer day at the outdoor pool are reserved for members, including summer pass holders. Members may bring non-member guests in that window with a day pass, and McKinney residents can enter with a day pass from noon. The city also schedules members-only weekends when guests are not allowed at all. Outdoor pools close for lightning or when the temperature reaches 105°F.

Sauna, gym and playroom hours

Open volleyball runs on Mondays only, 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., on the east side of the gym. During camps, the east side of the gym is used by campers on weekday mornings and late afternoons, and seasonal recreation programs may take Monday slots from 4 to 6 p.m.

Holiday hours

Holidays change the building schedule more than any other factor. The current facility list:

On holidays the competition pool and sauna generally close 30 minutes before the building (for example 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m. on New Year's Day), and the diving board does not run. During the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, the indoor leisure pool switches to its longer daytime open swim, noon to 8 p.m., on regular weekdays.

How to pick the best time to go

• Lap swimmers: the competition pool is exercise-only from opening until 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday; early mornings avoid lesson lanes.
• Families with small children: outside summer, aim for weekday evenings from 5 p.m. or weekend afternoons, when the leisure pool is in open swim.
• Divers: plan a Saturday after noon or a Sunday after 1 p.m.
• Parents who want to work out: the playroom's morning block (8 a.m.–1 p.m.) pairs well with a mid-morning class; remember the two-hour limit.
